SKYMALL SPLIT CASSINGLE SERIES VOL.1: BENOÎT PIOULARD/CAMPFIRES
C-10 cassette (second edition of 48; first edition of 30 SOLD OUT)
$6 US////$9 INTERNATIONAL

BACK IN STOCK WITH BRAND-NEW ART!!!!First in what we hope will be a long-running series of limited split cassingles, albeit on an unpredictable (read: NOT monthly) schedule. The skinny on our inaugural edition: PDX resident Benoît Pioulard has been straight stunning folks with his tidal wave of delay-lay-lay-laden fuzzy head beauty for a couple years now; Campfires (of Chicago) is newer to the game, but his hiss-encrusted pop spew is nonetheless enchanting as hell. You should also check out their recent releases on Kranky and Mexican Summer, respectively.

fire island AK- אדם - the Spirit, the Water, the Blood
C-20 cassette (edition of 25)
$6 US///$9 INTERNATIONAL

Met fire island Thomas when he was on tour a few years back, after which we kinda lost touch for awhile. You know how it goes: lots of jammers, lots of records, lots of facebook friends... who can keep up? Shit. Anyway, when I was out west in December, fire island AK came up in a conversation with my man Jon M. from Lost Sound Tapes, and he tells me that Thomas had started traversing this really dark road, kinda like Prurient or Non or something. That ain't what he sounded like when I met him, but also, I feel it would be reductive to say that he sounds like that now. This tape is heavy like that, sure, but its specific brand of doom and claustrophobia genuinely creeps me the fuck out in a way that a lotta that other stuff doesn't. Put it on with the lights out and worry.

DUST008
BLOOD NECKLACE- Skull Midwife
C-15 cassette (unlimited edition)
$6 US////$9 INTERNATIONAL

BACK IN STOCK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!!! The first Blood Necklace to see physical release, and man, even though I'm in the band and all, I couldn't be prouder to be putting it out. Blown-out Stooge/Hawkwind/Sab/late-'80s-Seattle worship filtered through the heads of noise/underground dorks. Only recordings set to be released from when guitarist Mike Jones (ex-Red Light Chambr Choir) was in the band. Other bands dudes have been/are in include BETTER LATE THAN PREGNANT, DAYTIME TELEVISION, WASTED RECOVERY, ACTUAL BIRDS, etc. Diggers of George Brigman, Wretched Worst, Cadaver In Drag, and/or the shit mentioned above might give it a try...

NOTE: There was a limited first edition of 30 copies. After we sold out, people were super-bummed, so I made more. Don't worry, collector nerds: the second edition is different in several small ways that make the first edition TOTALLY THE ONE TO HAVE!!!

WIILD RASPBERRIES- E.Z.
C-20 cassette (edition of 24)
$6 US////$9 INTERNATIONAL

I just knew that when Justin Shay (ex-New Sound Of My Bossa Nova, the greatest post-punk bossa nova band Ann Arbor's ever seen) and Tara Rubano had a baby, she'd be in a band before she was out of diapers. So it goes: little Astrid Echo Shay has teamed up with dad for this totally amazing free dub/drone band that needs to be heard to be believed. I'm just doin' my part by bringing you their cassette debut. Have a feeling that a tour is not forthcoming any time soon, so jam it and hope you're around Connecticut next time they play a gig!

MAXIMUM SUMMER LEISURE CLUB
C-10 cassette (edition of 24)
$6 US///$9 INTERNATIONAL

There's this vegetarian restaurant in Ann Arbor that sells dollar PBR pints (!) every Wednesday. When it starts to get nice out, we get a crew there pretty much every week to wild out as much as the environs allow (sometimes slightly more... BAD SCENE, YOU GUYS!). This here is a fly-on-the-wall documentary recording of one of these "Club Meetings", mixed for maximum weird by yours truly. Lots of shit about Weird Al and juggalos. Revel in the dorkdom!

DUST015
SKYMALL SPLIT CASSINGLE SERIES VOL. 2: GROWTH SPERT/NAUSEA VALLEY
C-20 cassette (edition of 24)
$6 US////$9 INTERNATIONAL
Man oh man, the scene just got freaky. NAUSEA VALLEY is the latest project of the mayor of Ypsilanti, MI: PATRICK ELKINS. His most psychedelic stuff (at least that I've heard) in years, and I don't go into the "p" word lightly. Whether I mean "Patrick" or "psychedelic" is your call, but either way: this stuff rules the most. GROWTH SPERT is from all over the place... we hung a lot in Portland, he's currently hunkered down in Minnesota, but I think of him as being birthed from the purest Arkansas soil, as he was based in Jonesboro when we met a handful of years ago (right?). His sound is akin to the classic street yelp of Wild Man Fischer or George "Bongo Joe" Coleman, if either/both were informed by the politics of Crass or Harlan Records... or something like that. Maybe it's more important that all the songs on this particular tape were performed utilizing only voice and a carefully selected and placed array of pots and pans. Maybe. Totally amazing, with the usual handmade covers, limited edition, blah blah blah...

SANTIPARRO- Get Well Soon
C-20 cassette (edition of 48)
$6 US////$9 INTERNATIONAL
My main man Eric Woz, of the world-famous Woz Bros. (ask anyone who doesn't suck, if you don't know) was recently asking Alan Santiparro Scheurman from whence his sound emerged, A.K.A. the jams that most inspired him. I think E.W. was expecting dude to be deep into Ed Askew or Rodriguez or something, which would surely be a fine thing, but dude came back with "I mostly just listen to the Nonesuch Explorer Series". Fits. Here's why: Santiparro loves this world, loves its beautiful music and people, and would like it very much if you might consider doing the same. These spare, lovely songs (5 in all) are all about that to some degree; somewhere within these lilting melodies and heartfelt words, all recorded in the Santiparro bedroom in recent times, you will find something that will make you want to get off your cynical ass, go out into your neighborhood, the forest, etc., and see that there is beauty. Cool!

VIVE LA FANTASTIQUE! Avec ACTUAL BIRDS AND FRIENDS
CD
$6 US////$9 INTERNATIONAL

I'm still paying off the loan for this one... but when I talk to someone who has been moved, helped, or just entertained by this record, it seems pretty worth it. Fred Thomas (City Center/Child/ex-Saturday Looks Good To Me) and myself, getting spiritual in the basement, trying to turn pop song forms inside out with the help of some buddies. It doesn't always work, but I've found that others seem to think it worked where I thought it didn't, and vice versa, so who knows? Buy it and find out for yourself.

OHIOAN & NATIVE KIN- Being Of The Good River
LP
$12 US////$15 INTERNATIONAL

Stunning vinyl debut from this Portland, OR country-psych troupe. O. Ryne Warner's fairly understated melodies and themes form the spine of these 4 extended tracks, but something funny happened in the recording studio: seems that nearly every free/improv player in the outer Portland area popped in and blew heavy all over these tracks, making it something woolier and weirder altogether. Just to wet your whistle, here's a short list of the bands the talent on this record have graced, prior and since: Old Time Relijun, Ghost To Falco, The Shaky Hands, Evolutionary Jass Band, Jackie O Motherfucker, Eternal Tapestry, Ah Holly Fam'ly. The end result? To quote the old Casanova Temptations website: "Slow-burning jams from the edge of the river, dancing by the water as civilization collapses under its own weight". Indeed.

TELEPHONE CALLERS/VALTERRA BLUE Split
CDR
$6 US///$9 INTERNATIONAL

The Telephone Callers are the best band in Ann Arbor. They say so, and I believe them. I fell asleep during their set last night because I ain't slept right in a week, but I've seen 'em a million times and stayed awake/alert, and I loved it. Between the members of this band, I think they own every weird psych/prog/Ralph/sideways punk record ever made, and they try to cram a little bit of each song they like into every song they write. It rules, because I can't tell you who they sound like.
Valterra Blue, I've never seen live. Bill from Telephone Callers just told me that they wanted to do a split with the dude, and had me listen to some of his other CDRs to see if I thought it was cool. The answer: I released it, didn't I? Total loner rock, kinda like Kenneth Higney or Jandek (ca. "Modern Dances", I mean). Radical. Split of the year, and probably the last (or second-to-last... I still have some blank 3"s left) CDR I will ever do.
